How Detox Can Support Your Recovery Journey

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) currently defines recovery as “a process of change through which individuals improve their health and wellness, live

self-directed lives, and strive to reach their full potential.”

At the beginning of someone’s recovery journey — or at any point along the way — this process of change can feel deeply overwhelming. It’s easy to feel alone and helpless when you’re struggling with an addiction to drugs or alcohol.

For many people, detox can be the next right step on the road to long-term recovery. In a detoxification, or detox, program, you can withdraw from substances you’ve been using in a safe, supported, and purposeful environment. The goal of detox is to help you complete withdrawal safely and prepare you for the next stage of your recovery journey.

Blue Ridge Mountain Recovery Center is proud to offer a continuum of care that includes a dedicated detox program. Our detox program is a medically supervised subacute service providing 24-hour care and monitoring by an expert team. It is available for adults around the country who are battling substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health concerns.

Medically supervised detox is designed to help people navigate withdrawal symptoms with the least amount of discomfort and physical risk. By receiving professional support in a detox program, individuals can stabilize, focus on their physical well-being, and prepare for whatever is next in their care journeys. Completing detox and moving to the next stage of recovery, such as a residential program, can be a monumental step on your journey or the journey of a loved one.

Before someone begins receiving care in our subacute detox program, they complete a detailed evaluation of their history of substance use, their current symptoms, and their treatment needs. After starting detox at our facility, each person follows an empirically validated detox protocol, which may include medication if it is clinically appropriate. Everyone in our detox program receives an individualized treatment plan and begins preparing and planning for their continuing care needs at the beginning of their stay. Our medical director and nurses supervise each client’s detox protocol, helping ensure a safe, effective, and personalized treatment process.

At each level of addiction care at our facility, we work to honor the needs of each person and their personal process of growth and positive transformation. Although detox focuses on supporting the physical withdrawal process, our team understands that recovery is multifaceted. In our detox program, our professionals help clients move toward a holistic model of recovery. Our staff may also help clients begin working on the emotional and social elements of the healing process in preparation for their ongoing recovery work.

The natural next step after detox is usually our residential program, though each person’s journey is unique. We offer a continuum of services, along with comprehensive discharge planning, so that clients can move forward with purpose and the resources they need to succeed.

At Blue Ridge, we also want people to know that they are not alone in their recovery efforts. Our treatment approach is success-oriented, with a focus on promoting competency and inspiring hope. We are here to guide and support the individuals, families, and communities we serve. Additionally, our treatment center is set on 40 acres of wooded grounds near Atlanta, offering an ideal treatment and recovery environment. We deliver care, including detox services, in a peaceful and homelike setting where clients can feel secure and as comfortable as possible.

Participating in detox may feel like a small yet challenging step on the road to deeper and more holistic well-being. But it is often a vital part of the dynamic process of recovery. Our staff is here to help people become well-versed in that process so that they can envision what a healthier future can look like for them.
