Treatment for Codeine Addiction
Learn More About the Treatment We offer for Codeine Abuse
Codeine is a narcotic (opioid) pain medication that’s very commonly used to manage conditions such as pain or a cough. While often used in prescription medications, opioids like codeine used for non-medical purposes, are rapidly becoming the drug of choice for many drug addicts. Codeine may produce a mild high, or a feeling of euphoria, especially when taken in large quantities. After five to seven days of continuous codeine use, even those who are using codeine as directed by their physician may develop a physical addiction to this drug. It is then it becomes imperative to seek rehab at a codeine addiction treatment center.
Those who become addicted to codeine require more and higher doses of the substance in order to achieve the same pleasurable sensations and experience drug cravings when the drug is not available. Some individuals consider codeine addiction as the gateway for powerful opioids such as morphine, OxyContin, and heroin, as all produce varying degrees of euphoria. While the vicious cycle of abuse and addiction to codeine can feel insurmountable, with the proper rehab and treatment, this addiction can be overcome. The addiction team at Blue Ridge Mountain Recovery Center in Georgia is ready to help you live a life free from codeine.

Blue Ridge Mountain Recovery Center is dedicated to offering the highest quality of treatment that is designed around each unique client. We approach rehab from the holistic model, understanding that codeine addiction is a disease of the system and not simply the person. We have designed a rehab process that draws from numerous therapeutic models and treatment techniques consisting of a number of evidence-based treatment models.
Because each man or woman receives care that has been tailored according to his or her needs, strengths, and rehab goals, each client receives an individualized treatment plan at Blue Ridge. Depending on their unique needs, clients are usually placed in one of two programs at our treatment center:
Detox Treatment
Residential Sub-acute Codeine Detoxification Treatment
In some cases, individuals who have been experiencing an addiction to codeine also struggle with being physically dependent on the substance. For those who meet this description, and who have had great difficulty ending the codeine abuse prior to coming to rehab, we provide medically monitored detoxification services at our treatment center to ease the process.
Blue Ridge Mountain Recovery Center is one of the few treatment centers in Georgia to offer a full range of clinical and sub-acute medical services, including medically supervised detox, and is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our detoxification program begins with a complete evaluation of the client’s codeine abuse history, current characteristics, and patterns of use. Each individual is supervised by our medical director and nursing staff to ensure safe detoxification and a more comfortable painkiller withdrawal process. Once an individual has completed detox with us, he or she can then transition directly into residential treatment.
Residential Treatment
Clinically-Managed Residential Codeine Treatment
Blue Ridge Mountain Recovery Center offers residential treatment that keeps rehab simple, yet logical. Residential treatment includes individual therapy, group therapy, activities designed to heighten wellness, and medical management of symptoms (as needed).
Individual Therapy: During rehab, we offer a number of treatment techniques in individual therapy, including psycho-social education, cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, music therapy, relapse prevention, relapse recovery and multiple family therapy models. Individual sessions between a client who is being treated for codeine addiction and a trained professional can provide valuable opportunities for the client to process successes and setbacks, address specific issues related to his or her recovery, and receive essential guidance and feedback.
Group Therapy: At our center, we implement treatment groups based on three learning styles; cognitive (intellectual learning), effective (emotional learning) and skills development (“how to” learning). Our rehab is designed to engage the spiritual, emotional, mental, physical, social, legal and vocational needs of our clients helping them transform their whole person.
Medical Management of Symptoms: For those seeking treatment for addiction to codeine and are also suffering from a co-occurring mental health issue, medical management of mental health symptoms may be provided as needed. If our initial medical evaluation indicates that a client may benefit from medications, he or she may receive medication management services from our psychiatrists and certified registered nurse practitioners.
Family Therapy: At Blue Ridge Mountain Recovery Center, we believe that it is vital to provide education and guidance to the family and loved ones of our clients who struggle with addiction to codeine. During rehab, our family program is provided, at no additional cost, to immediate family members and loved ones of clients at our residential treatment center. Approximately every three weeks, we offer family and loved ones the opportunity to participate in our two-day long family workshop at our center in Georgia. This experience seeks to include family members and loved ones in the treatment journey and provides the opportunity for family to learn more about addiction and recovery. We also provide family sessions throughout each client’s stay at our treatment center as deemed appropriate by their therapist.
The Expedition– Relapse Recovery Program: “The Expedition” is our relapse recovery program which is an excursion to uncover the truth and reestablish a strong foundation in sobriety. It is specifically designed to help those who have relapsed truly recover from their set back. This program requires the development of a personalized relapse recovery plan in which clients and their families or loved ones will:
- Complete multiple assessments, one being a Relapse Assessment
- Get reintroduced to relapse prevention skills
- Reestablish health boundaries and communication
- Develop an aftercare plan
- Participate in peer support activities
We structure this program around the same three learning styles we utilize in our residential program; cognitive (intellectual learning), effective (emotional learning) and skills development (“how to” learning). We want to engage the spiritual, emotional, mental, physical, social, legal and vocational needs of our clients helping them transform from their relapse back into a healthy, whole person.
