Despite being marketed as safe alternative to illegal drugs, synthetic marijuana, also called spice or K2, is a fairly new drug on the market and is one of the most dangerous drugs available today. While distributors claim that this substance contains natural psychoactive materials obtained from plants, the truth is that these plant materials are combined with synthetic compounds of toxic chemicals, which are the active chemical that allow individuals to experience a high. The amount of negative, life-altering effects that can result from just a single use of this dangerous substance is extensive. It can produce the immediate onset of psychosis. It can cause one to fall into a coma, be thrown into seizures, experience heart palpitations, and in some cases, it can result in almost instantaneous death.

In order to help put an end to this destruction, we provide specialized rehab designed to meet each client’s intensive needs. Treatment Types

Treatment Approaches for Synthetic Marijuana Addiction

Blue Ridge uses the most up to date empirically validated treatment modalities at our addiction treatment center. Our synthetic marijuana abuse and addiction treatment services are based on the 12-step model for recovery, which provides the opportunity for our clients to feel safe and supported while working on true healing. Each person is a unique individual and so we provide personalized treatment plans that are developed based on your specific needs. When deciding upon the best course of action we will consider the strengths you already posse and use them to help you develop areas that you consider to be your weaknesses. At Blue Ridge, we have found that the best form of addiction rehab is a combination of medication management and therapeutic intervention.

Depending on your level of addiction your first step in the rehab process will likely be to participate in our detox service. Detoxification is used to quickly and safely remove all toxic substances from your body. After you have been detoxed and are stabilized you are ready to begin the therapeutic portion of the addiction recovery programming. Many individuals going through detoxification from synthetic pot will experience some unpleasant side effects, which is why medication may be used to help manage those negative symptoms. Some people only use medication on a short-term basis to get stabilized and are able to continue therapy without meds. Others may need medication on a long-term basis to help control symptoms of any co-occurring disorders. The treatment team will work with you to decide the best approach as it relates to your medication. Some of the therapies we offer include individual therapy, reality-based therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, group therapy, and family therapy.

Individual therapy is a therapy that allows you to work one-on-one with a therapist identifying your presenting issues in a more in-depth way throughout rehab. Sessions will be centered on discovering any underlying issues related to your addiction and addressing any co-occurring disorder you may not have been aware of.

Reality-based therapy (RT) focuses on the here and now, the present moment. By focusing on your current actions and state of mind you have the ability to create a better future for yourself. You will learn how to determine what you want out of life and how to create your own happiness.

Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is used to asses distorted way of thinking that lead to your negative behavior. By realizing how your negative thoughts you will be able to restructure them to more positive ways of thinking. This will then help you to change the negative behavior, in this case, your addiction to synthetic marijuana.

Group therapy is an essential part of the rehab process because it allows you to connect with others who are going through similar experiences. By regularly meeting with others who are struggling with addiction problems you can learn from each other and gain much-needed support. We have both process and psych-educational groups both of which center upon specific topics for each group session. Some of the topics we explore may include anger management, the consequences of addiction, and how to prevent a relapse after rehab.

Finally, at our treatment center, we believe that family involvement is an important aspect of addiction recovery. Blue Ridge is one of the few treatment centers in Georgia where family therapy is used to identify problems within the family dynamic that may have added to the addiction. Family therapy consists of individual sessions and a two-day intensive family workshops that is designed to teach your family about your addiction. Our hope is that through family therapy the emphasis can be placed on the feelings related to your addiction instead of the circumstances. We also encourage family visitations throughout your stay with us at our center.

Additionally, we offer a variety of experiential treatments. These include:

  • Recreational programs
  • Role-playing
  • Nutritional counseling
  • Spiritual therapy
  • Guided meditation
  • Art programming
  • A.A. and N.A.

After Treatment

Continuing Care – What Happens Next?

When you have completed addiction treatment at our center, Blue Ridge we will have in place a referral so that you can receive the needed continued care. Our staff will set up an appointment with the new program you are transferring to so that there are no loose ties when you are ready to leave. Some individuals find that and intensive outpatient program (IOP) to be an appropriate next step. While others find that they are able to discharge home and continue on with traditional outpatient counseling. Whatever you decide is best for you, we will support you in getting all of the details worked out. If you find that you still need a more intensive program we can help you to locate the right one for you in Georgia or elsewhere. We want to ensure that you will continue to be successful in your recovery from synthetic marijuana.
